Saturday Evening Vigil Mass
Worship
Saturday evening mass begins at 4:00 pm. with Father Dick Rossman, our pastor, or
Father Michael Antony, our Parochial Vicar presiding.
Mary Grace Wible, our Director of Music, leads the community in song and prayer.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is available from 3-4 pm.
Community
You can often catch Fr. Dick, Fr. Michael, Deacon Dave or Paula Voborsky, St. Peter's pastoral
associate, outside the church door greeting parishioners as they enter for worship.
In the gathering space you will be greeted by members of the parish community.
After every mass, there is time for hospitality and getting to know your brothers and
sisters in Christ. Usually there are pastries, juice, and fair trade coffee being
served. Occasionally, there will be an ice cream social, a pot luck or a cook out.
Service to others
Faith without works is an empty faith. Parishioners bring in non-perishable food items
for the St. Vincent de Paul Food boxes located by the book racks. A representative sample
of the food collected is brought to the altar along with the the gifts of bread and
wine. St. Peter's works for economic justice through the promotion of fair trade. Fair
trade guarantees indigenous people a fair price for the handicrafts they make and grow.
This allows these people to support their families and communities through legitimate work.
For many families, this is the first time they could afford to educate their children.
After mass in late November and December we have a fair trade fair with crafts from around
the world. We also offer St. Peter's fair trade coffee for sale at every mass. In addition
to supporting the small coffee growers, one dollar per pound is given to Catholic Relief
Services to use in setting up more cooperatives in the poorest nations. We also collect
other items to aid various local charities in serving the needy of Eugene.
Our actions as Christian disciples in the world is a direct reflection of our commitment
to seeing life through the prism of the Most Holy Eucharist. Guided by our participation
in the mass, we become "bread for the world."
